Scarlet Macaws are found in tropical forests from eastern Mexico to the Peruvian Amazon and Brazil. These brilliantly colored birds survive on a diet of fruits and seeds. Highly intelligent, macaws mate for life and may live up to 70 years. Currently, the species is at risk due to habitat loss and capture for illegal bird trade. WWF helped create Peru’s spectacular Manu National Park, home to the scarlet macaw and nearly 10 percent of all bird species on Earth.

Adopt a Tiger for the Year of the Tiger!

This photo belongs to http://superiorplatform.com/animals/tigers/tigers.htm

There could be as few as 3,200 tigers in the wild, most in isolated pockets spread across increasingly fragmented forests, stretching from India to southeastern China and from the Russian Far East to Sumatra, Indonesia. Largest of all cats, the tiger is one of the most threatened species on Earth. Tigers prefer to eat hoofed animals, but will also prey on fish, birds and even other predators like leopards and bears. These beautiful cats are threatened by growing human populations, loss of habitat, illegal hunting (of both tigers and their prey species) and expanded trade in tiger parts used as traditional medicines.

Pandas are found only in the temperate forests of China. Although classified as a carnivore, the panda’s diet consists almost exclusively of bamboo. Despite being one of the most popular animals in the world, pandas are threatened by habitat fragmentation and unsustainable development. It is estimated that fewer than 2,500 pandas remain in the wild today. WWF remains the primary international conservation organization protecting pandas in the wild.
